Beautiful Junky Summer

What seems like ages ago now (about three weeks ago), my youngest daughter and I took to the road in my friends' Lynette and Paul's SUV crammed with furniture to take to my older daughter, Cally, in Alabama. Of course, I was on the hunt for treasures like these as well as the junk I so love.

Junkin' Good Fun

I've been lax on sharing my latest hunting episodes, but then, I've also been busy getting furniture and things ready to take over to my daughter... my daughter who just got engaged Saturday! Yep, that's right! I'm going to be mother of the bride, you all. Woo hoo! Looks like I'll have my hands even more full for many months to come.

I've been playing blog hooky because I've been trying to finish up what feels like a zillion projects. In the process, I've managed to go out and drag home some cool new stuff, passed up some amazing curbside finds because I couldn't get them in the car (okay, I'm moving on... I'll try not to whine about it.) and I've been working on other projects I've gotten myself into.

Here are a few of the latest goodies I've procured.

It folds and then the feet fold up too! The top wood can be twirled open and closed to use as a vice or put pegs in the holes to hold your wood at an angle for cutting.  Five dollars! So excited! I need a workbench!

Junk Crimes and Misdemeanors

Some of you may want to shoot me for what I did yesterday, but you'd have to be a quick draw to beat me to the trigger. Besides, you shouldn't shoot someone who's black and blue from kicking themselves all day and into the next.

Besides I'm confessing and begging forgiveness. You wouldn't shoot someone on their knees begging for mercy, would you?

Seaside Hues - This Way

Worn wood and watery hues.

It all started with a fence section that I scooped up out of someone's trash one morning on the way to work. Yes, I find some good stuff just taking an extra street or two on the way in to work on Mondays.

The Story of a Pick - Part One

My friend, Lynette, and I recently had the opportunity to go picking through a business that was no more.
Good thing it says "No Soliciting" and not "No Picking".

Mad Men Style

I've never seen Mad Men, but I'm not so out of touch that I don't know this would make a few fans of the show swoon.

Long before the show enticed people with the sleek lines of mid century style, many of us grew up with this simple yet cool vibe.

Saturday Fun for $7.75

The need for a certain kind of casters got me out and about this past Saturday morning, as well as the desire to score some inexpensive hooks and cup pulls for a project I'm working on. Didn't find what I was looking for, but for $7.75 I snagged all these goodies and had a good time talking to some fun people along the way.

Ambiance is in The Eye of the Beholder

Last week flew by in a flutter of many things, not the least of which included junk.

From the FREE to the pretty darn cheap, my life this week came with a heavy dose of grit, grime and things being crammed (and sometimes not - when they didn't fit) into the back seat of my car. The casters are now on the cable spool I found in the trash last week, and it's serving as an outdoor side table. At least something got done.

Competitive Thrift

I told you I was competitive, and it has its drawbacks. My desire to win comes out when shopping the curb, a yard sale or Goodwill. Sometimes I compete with myself and sometimes I pit myself against the seller, but add another shopper to the equation (if I even suspect they might want what I want) and the will to win kicks into overdrive.

Pierina's Scrapbook - A Love Story

While on my way home from yesterday's garage sales, I passed a huge pile of junk that was too tempting to pass up. As I got busy picking my way through it, there were a couple of letters and old receipts paperclipped together with some other nondescript paper sticking out from under some wood just on top of the stained carpet lying in a heap and next to the gigantic cabinets with the metal casters. So I yanked them out, always loving a cool stamp and an interesting envelope with handwriting.

Junk Warrior Without Her Weapons

You've heard the sage advice that even a young boy or girl in scouts learns: Be prepared.

I should pay attention to the sages and the scouts. While out garage sale-ing, where I hauled in $9 worth of fabulousness plus a 75 cent glazed donut, I spotted a junk pile in front of a house for sale.

Cue the brakes.

My Halfway House for Junk

At our house, the day after your birthday is kinda still like your birthday. After all, a day is so short and in the case of my birthday this year, I had to work. Then on top of it, I was plagued by allergies which were so bad I could barely function all day. I needed a birthday redo. In light of this, I'm considering today my official birthday.

A Colorful Year

2012 was nothing if not colorful. The rains came and I watched countless downpours and sun showers in wonder. Flowers bloomed brilliantly and the sun and moon stunned as they made their way across the sky, framed by backdrops of vivid strokes, the likes of which sent me tearing through the house to find my camera on many an occasion.

It's Tough Out There!

The competition is getting fierce out there, and there is no place for "the indecisive" on the streets of my town.

Seeing as I have no place to put anything right now and way too many things to deal with, I really didn't need to be out scouring the streets last Wednesday night and Thursday morning (several times). It would make a lot of sense NOT to take to the hunt right now since I'm trying to finish other things up and clear things out.

But I did. Of course I did. Where for art thou, sense and reason?

Well, I just hate the thought of missing out on something fantastic just because there is junk aplenty lining the walls of my home already. Surely I would miss something amazing if I didn't go. Plus I figured I can always trade out good junk for bad; I could just look for small things and ignore the big...right?

If it's free, it's for me!
